Please invent a clogged lint screen detector that will:
1. Take a photo of the last person to turn on the dryer
2. Shut the dryer off before it blows the thermal fuse
3. Start a flashing sign that says " I told you so"

Seriously, I can't get the family to pay attention here, and I'm sick and tired of changing these fuses.

Would a Klixon fuse that automatically resets itself be suitable here?
What temperature range would be suitable?
I'm guessing anything over 150 degrees should shut it off.

Lighting up an warning LED on the dryer panel would also be a plus.

I looked on ebay but didn't see any offerings.

Any thoughts, ideas?

 

An air vane at the duct past the lint filter can move a microswitch to activate whatever.

 

Stop changing the fuses. They'll get the idea...

 

You're drier already has one... there are usually three thermal shutoffs in your drier. Sounds like you found the thermal fuse... there is usually also a safety shutoff switch on the lint ducting (output) and on the heating ducting (input). If you want pictures every time someone turns it on in order to place blame on someone within your own family you might have a hard time doing that here since a dryer is a mains connected circuit.

 

Would a Klixon type self resetting thermal fuse be a suitable replacement?
Say at 150 degrees Fahrenhiet?

That would shut the dryer off repeatedly, until someone got the message.

My drier doesn't blow a fuse with a clogged lint screen, it just won't dry the laundry. I suppose it turns off the heat, and maybe it stops turning altogether, but that's it. Soggy clothes. Moldy in a few days if you're not on top of it.
We always empty the screen at the beginning of each load. It's just a habit we never think about.
