Its a pc board of a hard drive.
The component in the red square marked under "1.jpg"
The drive is half dead, is this component a fuse perhaps?

I would guess it's a crystal or an oscillator, most microprocessors needs one and I can't find one elsewhere one on the board.

 

Since it has polarity marked at one end, I suspect a fuse or a resettable fuse of some sort. It should read dead short with a multimeter If good.
Crystal seems to be in lower left corner, next to large processor chip…

 

Can you post a photo of the hard drive, top and bottom?
