I will have a controlled environment. Can those ESD simulators still be picked up nowadays?Right, now it makes sense. What you have is an old-style air discharge gun. The Lemo connector is plugged into an ESD simulator which generates a specific pulsed voltage, typically 7kV and a few 100uS wide pulse (simulates the ESD of someone discharging themselves) and the gun is brought close to the equipment under tested (EUT) until a spark discharges the 'gun' into/across/near the EUT and its effects noted. This is done under controlled conditions on a special table (for small devices) which acts as a ground plane.
This is normally done by, and at, specialist ESD test houses.
A modern ESD tester incorporates that in a hand-held device
