I was wondering if any of you know if an insulation tester can be used as a hi-pot tester? Seems like it could work.

Thinking of this one:

Yes, the high voltage version, that model goes to 2500v.
There are two versions of a Megger, one measures insulation, such as the one referenced, the other is low voltage, for measuring very low resistance.

Sounds like the one I posted is not sufficient (yes/no?). Can you suggest a model number?

 

It looks like a dual function model, both Insulation and Resistance, what do you want to measure to, Voltage?

Thanks Max. Yes I ordered the unit. I want to do a "Voltage Withstand test" @ 1.5kv. Primary windings to chassis ground. I think this unit will do it. Whatever the resistance is, I'll simply calculate the current, and that should be my leakage current.
