Some explosions just happened at the finish line of the Boston marathon; my mom was across the street in the lobby of a motel and my stepdad was on the other side in the medical tent after having ran the marathon. Nobody knows what's going on, but it smells like a terrorist attack to me. They can't leave because everybody is on lockdown. Some people got hurt but my parents weren't. I just want them to get out of there!

I'm glad your Parents are ok.

It reminds me of Oklahoma, I'll never forget April 19th, 1995

My Heart goes out to all those affected.

It's nowhere near as bad as Oklahoma. No deaths reported. If my parents weren't involved, I probably wouldn't think too hard about it. But since they are there, in the middle of it, I am paranoid thinking another explosion (I'll hold off using the "B" word) is going to go off and whatnot.

Just to clarify, my stepdad was already in the medical tent, being treated for leg cramps after finishing the marathon; he wasn't injured by the explosion.

Cops are reporting more unexploded bombs scattered around the area.

Correction: unexploded backpacks, water bottles, cell phones, and anything else a panicky crown can drop while fleeing.

Re-correction: I should quit talking because the TV reports keep changing.

I live right here in Boston, about a 1/2 mile from where this all took place. Strantor, are you in the area? I am glad your parents are okay.

I believe 2 deaths have been reported, and numerous serious injuries such as lost limbs etc. My heart goes out to all those affected and/or injured.

Stay safe everyone!

Matt

Sorry to say, that's not true.
oh no! When I turned on the news, they were not reporting any deaths yet. And they weren't reporting anywhere near 49 injuries.

I'm not in the area; I'm keeping track of this from home in TX, my mom's battery is nearly dead so she turns her phone on every time she has an update and puts it on facebook. last was:
Pat and I are fine and so is John. I pushed past the guard and got out of the hotel. Pat and I found each other and right now we're hoping to catch a train back to Framingham.
I'm worried they might be running into a trap. The first explosion may have just been to stir everybody up and get them to funnel into train stations and such.

I don't think anyone will attack the subways, but most of the trains are shut down anyway. Also cell service has been shut off in the area to prevent the possibility of accidental detonation.

Are you and yours OK Matt?
I'm okay, I was at my apartment. First heard about it at facebook. I don't know anyone directly affected yet, but I expect when I go back to work tomorrow I'll learn more. Kind of dreading it. My mind is racing--I just never expected this to happen so close!

I do have the video clip of the second explosion. I don't know if anyone wants to watch it or not. It is disturbing, some blood and injured people are shown. If you feel this might be too much for you, please don't watch it. For those who feel the need, here it is:

I just got off the phone with my mom. She was standing at the finish line exactly where the bomb went off, 20 min before it went off.

They got out of the city, 30 miles away on the train, back to their motel. All safe and sound.
I am very glad to hear they are out of the area. I imagine that must have been very scary, being there just 30 minutes before. I find it frightening that I was walking along there last night!
