I'd really love to get a reliable BLDC FOC controller, and at the same time not break the bank with it.

Where and how should I even start to look for one?
How do I avoid poorly designed controllers?
What are some known good brands for BLDC FOC controllers?

Yes, FOC is one of the ways you can drive a BLDC, I had a FOC controller from Sabvotron, but it was crappy and broke.

 

A google search shows the inexpensive one run from $44.00-$175.00. For me that's pin money. How about you?

 

Yes, FOC is one of the ways you can drive a BLDC,

But not usual for ones with commutation Hall sensors. It is easier for those to just use a ESC made for sensored motors.

 

I use Advanced Motion Controls drive devices for the majority of my BLDC servo projects, they have a high current one that takes either 1ph or 3ph supply, may be worth checking out their site.
Often used ones come up on Ebay etc.

I just did a Google search on "BLDC FOC Controllers". I did not notice, the first time I looked, that all the pictures came from the same place, and I don't recommend doing business with them.

Resistive throttle (0-5V) and dir (logic 1 or logic 0)
