So I want to load ubuntu 16.04 on my lenovo 3000 j series 7387A11 and it will go into BIOS just fine. i got my old hard drive with ubuntu preloaded and slapped it in the computer. I boot it up to the purple screen that says ubuntu advanced options and memtest. memtest works but whenever i select ubuntu it goes back to the DOS interface and says, Timer no connected to io- apic
and I have 4 gigs of ddr2 ram and a athlon64 x2 3800+ (want to upgrade to 4200+) and I think intigrated Geforce or some nvidia graphics

I've not run into that particular issue, but this thread has a discussion of the issue, and a possible fix for it. I've found this forum to be handy in answering some obscure linux OS questions.
