Generally speaking how much of an impact does the discharge on a cell effect its overall cycle life? I know mannufacturers rate cells for different discharge rates over several hundred cycles down to 80% DoD but what are the impacts of say discharging at low rates (ie charging up more than what you are discharging?) would it have a negative impact on cycle life?

cheers/ :)

I doubt there is any general rule for this. It will vary between the different types of battery - Lead, NiCd, NiMh, lithium. Within each of those groups are subgroups - Deep cycle lead, automotive lead. For lithium batteries are an amazing range of different chemistries available.

Even within each subgroup it is likely to vary by manufacturer so for any hope of an answer you would have to be much more specific.
