Really struggling to make sense of these from examples from my textbook, would be a massive help if someone could give a solution and explanation of how to solve these two problems.

 

To get you started on Q1:

1. What is the current through the inductor just before the switch opens?
2. What is the current through the inductor just after the switch opens?
3. What is the current through the inductor a long time after the switch opens?
4. Where does the current flow while getting from 2. to 3.?
5. What is the shape of the inductor current vs. time while getting from 2. to 3.

 

To get you started in Q2:

1) What is the relationship between current and voltage for a resistor?
2) What is the relationship between current and voltage for a capacitor?
3) How do these relate to the voltage and current given in the problem?
4) What is the relationship between current and/or voltage and energy stored in a capacitor?
5) What condition are you looking for that will indicate 50% of the energy in the capacitor has been expended?
