I will be getting my BSEE this coming May. Electronics was pretty hard for me, it was a challenge.. I like the field in itself. Now I want to challenge myself more. So as my first project, I am interested in making my own DC power supply. I'm not too concerned about the cost. I just want to build my own as a learning experience. Any tips on how to go about doing this? Anything would help.

You're supposedly graduating with a BSEE in May, and you are not able to design and build a DC power supply, a month before graduation?

That makes me really wonder what they were teaching you, as it must not have been electronics.

Anyway, go to National Semiconductor's site.

Download the datasheet for an LM337. There is a schematic about 2/3 of the way through for a +/-20v laboratory power supply using an LM317 and an LM337.
