Does a flourescent ballst use energy even if its not hooked up to a light bulb?i have about 200 4 bulb flourescent fixtures that im trying to run with only 2 bulbs. do i have to disconnect the extra ballasts also or just taking out the bulbs will allow me to get the energy savings?

 

There are enough ballasts on the market that it is hard to answer. You might look at one to see the make and model number and contact the manufacturer.

 

"Series mode" ballasts won't use any energy when the bulbs are unplugged. "Parallel mode" ballasts will. What flavor do you have? (And do you have the same type in each of those luminaries?)
