Arduino Board design to pick up metronome beats

Wow, I seem to have stirred up a bit of a hornet’s nest, sorry about that.
Is is possible to determine whether the TS ever came back to look at responses and decided to not to engage, or did he never come back after the initial posting?

Do you have to be logged in for the site to know if you are visiting?

If so, someone could browse here and read the posts and that would not be reported in the user's info.

Ok, was checking back after ~3 weeks of my post…. In the meanwhile I got an arduino starter kit - (this is a fun project not school work etc.), a microphone, some FFT libraries. I picked a frequency around 2-4kHhz, programmed it to measure time diff between the peaks of amplitudes … and now it responds to my clapping, and would respond by playing repeatedly a sound with the same beat of my clapping. The issue is, when I played a song, it is not working well. Do I need to put a low pass filter? What would you suggest to use for the R and C?

I read this forum prior to joining, so what I can tell you is that you can read but not comment or reply if you are not a member logged in.

Picking up the beat in music is actually extremely difficult. Audacicity is a very sophisticated audio processing program that can, for example, slow down or speed up music without changing the pitch. But it fails miserably at picking up the beats in music.

You originally said metronome, that is doable.

Yes, it works well with a metronome, and then clapping or tapping on the table. Was trying to go beyond that by playing some songs with obvious beats. Wondering if low pass filters could help , by getting rid of some higher frequency components first…

What would be needed is a very narrow frequency detector that only sensed the one tone that carried the beat. So it might not always sense it.
