I want to be clear that I am not talking about deja vu.
I expected this response! :D
I believe the accepted explanation is that we are constantly making predictions and adjusting our actions accordingly, even without being conscious of it. Occasionally we're right, and it stuns the hell out of us. That may feel unsatisfying but I'm pretty sure you're not have visions of the future.

Aha! Your precognition is working!:D

Not really. You merely expected the obvious. If you had seen the letters appear on your screen as I typed them, complete with mistakes being removed with the backspace key, that would be precognition.;)

I took a nap earlier and several times was aware of talking and laughing in my sleep. I was aware of the words coming out of my mouth but was not in control of them. I did not try to stop talking in my sleep and I'm not sure if I can stop talking in my sleep. I've said some things in my sleep before that thankfully were probably unintelligible or else I would have caused a rift in my marriage.

I see this as similar and possibly related on some level to your experiences @#12 . It's definately not precognition but it's me "going with the flow" and being not in control the situation, while having some false premise of being in control of it. It also takes place in the dream world, which I don't think anyone truly understands.

I think in dreams your mind operates on levels that you can't access when conscious. I think that having premonitions come true in dreams is probably more common than having waking precognitions like you have described. I think if there is ever any scientific proof of precognition/premonition, it will be uncovered through the study of dreams.

I had no idea you would throw dreams into the air for Precog/Preminition but, I had a devestating experience once that involves a dream and a car accident. As a kid my father purchased a GoCart looked like it belonged to the Adams Family 5HP motor and no brakes we would do the stupidest things like going as fast as we could and slow the cart by turning sideway's in the gravel on the shoulder of the road. The Cart had flat tires meaning rather than round they were flat like and Indi Car so it slid very well.

Fast forward to the beginning of my Career in AC and Appliance Repair field first job was Sears out of town two hrs away every week I would leave and head out of town and one morning while passing a town with a road near my destination they have a cross road still there today, a red blinking light in the middle of town the main interstate ran through it, a women pulled in front of me, in a small Toyota pickup I was in the outside lane she pulled forward and stopped coming off a hill and it's raining like hell I slow the car pumping the brakes the road was butter I went from 50 to 40 and time stopped when I move to the inside lane thinking she see's me but, no she doesn't.

Now, she moves from the outside lane to the inside lane, as a black truck sallies up to the stop behind and I can hit two cars or one. OMG, this is so bad and time stops and in seconds I begin the process of estimating how much force my 72 2 door Thunderbird will create when I hit her driver side door launching her through the truck passenger compartment killing her on the spot or to hit her front wheel, therefor all that energy will explode into the engine compartment. With oncoming traffic I decide the engine compartment which will fold my front passenger wheel and cause the car to slow and keep me from going into a river providing no one head on kills me from oncoming traffic, when I hoping to graze the front end of the truck forcing me into the oncoming traffic.

It's dark headlights in view from oncoming traffic I decide once I commit and if I black out and am in the water in a river 20 feet off the other side of the road meaning I hit no one in the oncoming lane and continue toward the river and submerge I need to roll the window down and hold my breath to exit the car. Suddenly we collide her truck spins 3 times as the guy in the black truck say's and how the hell I missed oncoming traffic, he's baffled and like angles appear she exit's the truck, in the suicide lane thrown 30 feet no seatbelt on the first spin of the truck and lands in the middle of the road with the contents of the truck is gutted spew from it into the middle lane behind her.

I exit the car with a 2 inch cut on my temple from the rearview mirror blood coming down to my white Sears shirt I ran to see where she was, she was not in the truck and I ran around it finding nothing, no oncoming cars the road was empty, I ran to the only people there the black truck, up to the window he rolls down the rain stopped before I exit the vehicle and the sun is rising I ask where is she, his eyes are popping from his head as he say's, there in the middle of road I ran to her as she's on her hands and knees with only 2 cuts both side of her eyes alive and crying I ask are you ok? can I pick you up? she nodes her head I carry her to the truck and set her down gently and praise the powers that be we are both alive. The Doctor said as he stitches me up, do you understand how lucky you are, that intersection has claimed more lives than you know most people at a minimum walk away from an accident there. I said yes, I do understand.

A week later I remember, having a dream about the accident but, the black truck wasn't in the dream I avoid it turning back to the outside lane and I skid the car in the gravel of shoulder just as I did the Gocart of my youth, after coming to a stop in my dream I exited the car shaking my fist in the air yelling you F-ing idiot what the F-ing hell are you thinking?

My only experience with what I would call super natural, I'll never forget it for the rest of my life it's spooky to speak of it.

That reminds me. From June 19, to June 24, 1976 I dreamed I was in a bed and could not get out of bed, for 6 nights in a row. It was frightening like one of those paralysis dreams which I think everybody has. On the seventh night a drunk driver turned left in front of me. I woke up in a hospital four days later. I was in a bed and could not get out of bed because I was in traction for a broken leg, and that is where I stayed for 3 months.

That wasn't precognition but @strantor mentioned dreams so I responded with this premonition event.
Precognition would have been very handy in that event, but it didn't happen when I desperately needed it.:(

The English might be confusing me but are we talking about a split second foresight? As in when we unaware quickly "calculating" what would happen next?

Well we talk of the brain sometimes as a muscle but it ain't exactly a muscle however its response is faster than any other muscle.(except when it doesn't and we stare at a water balloon coming for our face);)

However our brain saw coming without actually telling us beforehand. * Splat
Look at post #25. There is no way known to man that my brain could get a clue that a drunk driver was going to injure me 6 days before it happened.
are we talking about a split second foresight?
Six days is not a split second. That was premonition.

In post #25 I am talking about a premonition. This Thread is labeled Precognition. In my experience, precognition happens in short bursts, less than a minute, and it is completely random. Look at post #1, the wedding garter. I knew where the garter was going to be before it was thrown, even to the point that I stepped farther away from the crowd that was hoping to catch the garter. That is precognition.

I knew where the garter was going to be 4 or 5 seconds before it was thrown, even 1 or 2 seconds before the thrower took his stance. Again, that is not a split second and there were no clues that his aim was going to be so bad before he even placed his feet to throw.

Precognition would be an excellent survival option, but it happens at trivial moments. That is both a waste of a valuable ability and what makes them difficult to remember. They are not connected to monumentous moments, they are connected to trivial moments.

I know the words the person next to me is going to say
......................................................
They locked together and spun into the car that was waiting behind where I used to be at the red light.
......................................
For me the things you say seem normal.
People communicate with each other and talk through words but also non-verbal.

It seems normal to guess the next word that a person is going to say.
If a girl does not like you, you know instinctively as at your ask she will say "no".
You do not have to be a magician for this.

If some of the guys are driving crazy on the street. You do not have to be a magician to know they're going to crash.

When I was little, I wanted to get rich......
I read about: Aristotel Socrate Onasis.

When he was young, with his mother, he and his brothers stepped on a boat.
Before the boat starts, His mother had a feeling:
"Let's get the hell out of here". After they got off the boat, Behind them the boat exploded.

I dreamed an old man entering my home yesterday. This means that poverty will come upon me. Strange, I'm going to sign a work contract with a very good company this days.

Probably the mind, which "defragment" during the night, it was observed during the day a duplicate attitude of the people we talked to.

I hope in all my heart not to be true. And I'm going with trust at this company. With confidence.

Here's a story I've been wanting to share for a while, but I've been up to my neck with work for the last couple of months, and I haven't set aside the time to participate in this place, which I have to confess, it's become my favorite past-time. Worse thing is that too many extremely interesting subjects have been going on, and all I can do is browse through them, and do a quick read of all the threads that I find interesting. Especially yours, #12. Your threads are never boring.

A not so long time ago (circa 1989), I took my mom to a huge shopping mall that had just opened in my city. I mean, the place was big! Especially the parking lot. I'm not sure exactly how many cars you could fit in that place, but my rough estimate is that the mall's perimeter measured about 400 x 500 meters. That would be around 30 acres of land, half of which was the parking lot. From what I remember, there must've been at least 4,000 cars distributed in the six to eight parking sections that day.

Anyway, as I walked into the building, I suddenly had one of those back-of-your-neck-hair-rising moments and a thought popped into my head... a little voice whispered: "she's here!" ...

Allow me to elaborate. That year I had finally earned my Mechanical Engineering degree, and was about to start writing my thesis (I didn't actually start working until the next year), but there was a girl in college that I was absolutely bunkers about... I mean, when I saw her, my heart would start pumping, my vision would blur, and my speech would become slurred... all that without a drop of tequila nor any other stimulant in my system... unfortunately she was not that much into me, and the feeling was not exactly mutual...

I knew for a fact that she liked me. But she didn't like like me, if you get my meaning. I would ask her out, and she would most of the time say yes, 'cause she said she found me funny and fun. But then she would sometimes out of the blue drop me like a rock and tell me that she thought it was probably not a good idea to be seeing each other, 'cause she thought that it wasn't fair for me... (I was like, who cares about fairness?)... and then several weeks would pass (even months) when we started non-dating again... and that cycle went on for about two or three years... but I digress, because that's another story.

Where was I? ... right... I went into the building with my lovely mom, and all of a sudden I felt her presence in the crowd.... there were thousands of people in the place, but I just knew she was there.

Back at that moment we were going through one of those breaks from our non-dating that she would every once in a while impose in our non-relationship. And I hadn't seen her for months. But my x-sense informed me in that instant that she was near, and I took it seriously and started scanning for her while at the same time walking my mom from store to store...

Suddenly, I looked up, and there she was... she was on the electric stairs, climbing down from the second floor, and she spotted me too. She smiled at first, but then she went real serious as she reached the bottom of the stairs. She then walked up to me, and with the most serious face I've ever seen her use she said: "Have you been following me?"

... to be continued ...

ah, come on man! I was really into the story. If you were going for a cliff-hanger, you nailed it.
Awwwwww.... poor Stranty won't go to bed until his curiosity has been fully pacified... :p ...

Seriously man. I didn't mean to annoy you (though I have to admit it brings me some pleasure :D) ... I'm in Nicaragua (that's Central America to you, buster), having a few beers after a hard day before I hit the sac. And I couldn't take it anymore and just had to take a shower before continuing my story. This place will sweat the soul out of you.

And now, the conclusion of "cmartinez' Amazing Precognition":D

... typing even as I click "Post Reply" ....

"Have you been following me?"

#12 nailed it... that's exactly what happened next.

In my mind, I knew that she knew that I was looking for her. Maybe she saw me before I saw her, and she could've noticed the way I was thoroughly inspecting the place.. looking for something. And maybe my look of utter pleasure and satisfaction when I finally spotted her confirmed her suspicions.

I can't remember what words I spoke to her, if at all. Most likely I was dumbfounded trying to connect my tongue to my brain (yes, I'm one of those guys who actually try to think before they speak), but I was saved by my lovely mom (she's still around... 85 and in perfect health, but for her macular degeneration eyesight problem... God bless my mommy)
She walked out of the store she was visiting, and immediately recognized my friend, and my mom's face lit up as she greeted her... I still remember the look of confusion and embarrassment on my friend's face as she kissed her hello...

After a few exchanges and formalities, my mom said bye, and I just nodded and went on my way with her...

But for years I was bothered by the brain-worm eating at my mind... how on earth did I actually know she was there? ... I mean, I KNEW she was there, because I had this certain feeling that she actually was!

And then, just like that, it all downed on me... it had to be the parking lot. There was no other explanation.

Frankly, I've always been a skeptic regarding the so-called supernatural. I do believe that there are things out there that cannot be fully explained. But I've always believed that there is a rational explanation for every single event that surrounds us... What can I say? I'm a man of science.

That day I had to park the car at the edges of the parking lot (actually, in the furthermost corner) because the place was packed full. So my mom and I had to walk a considerable distance to reach the building. Although we walked as straight a line to the closest available door that we could, we had to do a little zig-zagging around the lot to reach it. That means that my field of vision had the capacity to scan what I think was about 20% of all the cars parked in the mall's perimeter... and maybe, just maybe... my friend's car was among them. And quite possibly I saw her car from the corner of my eye and recognized it. And my subconscious triggered a red alert.

That's my conclusion, and it corroborates what I've previously said. I believe the human brain (and its senses) is capable of unbelievable feats under the right conditions. But I don't think (though I try to keep an open mind) that one needs to summon the supernatural to come up with a feasible explanation for even the most extraordinary events.

Epilogue: A few months after that happened, I called my friend and had a deep and aggressive talk with her (that story is for another thread). I basically asked her "what the hell is wrong with you?"... we both liked each other's company, and shared the same interests, and most important, we both wanted the same things.,,, "why don't we give it a try?" ... and so she agreed... and so we did give it a try....

Two years after that, I asked her to marry me... she said yes. :)
