I want to implement the following scheme but charge pumps with a 40V output are too expensive for my needs.

The only affordable component is DGD2101M but it uses some kind of bootstrap topology and I can't tell if it's analogous.

What's likely to result if I put a diode between COM and ground to protect DGD2101M from reverse polarity like this? There's no way to simulate it and I'm not familiar with the internal structure of the chip so should I expect it to work, has anyone done something similar before?
