On that I will not disagree.
But the people who's lives have been destroyed by allowing someone who has a grievance to burn down another's business is not the way you get people on your side. Allowing people to come in and turn tables over and mess up someone's dinner is not acceptable behavior. Those people have rights too.

There is a world of difference between Protest and Riot. Here in Georgia, it is a felony to carry a firearm (or any other weapon) to ANY "rally or political gathering" and yet there have been many instances of so-called protesters "rally"ing while armed. Even here in Georgia, RE Stone Mountain Park. Turning a blind eye to it just incites and encourages them to continue and escalate. They will continue to test and push the boundaries. You want to protest, fine that is your constitutional right of free assembly and free speech, you want to riot, lock em up and throw away the key. This has gone on far far too long in Portland and other places.

I agree SamR you can't keep letting people get away with breaking the law. What happens when the people who are getting hurt finally decide to fight back and they will. You'll have a war in the streets.

There is also a difference between lawful and unlawful assembly. You want to go downtown and rally and march in protest, fine, get a permit. And don't be surprised when the town sends you the bill for assigning officers to control traffic and paying for their off-duty call-in overtime.

From time to time some town tries that and it almost always boomerangs on them. Consider that one way to suppress the right to protest and peacefully assemble is to make doing so unaffordable. It's the same argument why things like poll taxes are unconstitutional.

Now, having to pay for actual damage done is a different matter and when they catch the specific individuals that caused the damage they often arrest them and fine them accordingly, but the overall group is almost never held accountable for the same reason and so it is usually just a cost that gets absorbed -- and of course the taxpayers have to pay it in the end.

My statement was meant to satire a well known person in a very high position of authority; not to make commentary on the pro-protestors and the anti-protestors.
Osama's hard drive stash filled with porno! Guess he couldn't wait to meet all those martyrdom virgins as his just reward.

They're promised 72 virgins (I think that's the number). Nobody promised them they would be female. And what of the female terrorists? Do they get 72 virgin men? Boy I bet they're going to be sore in the morning. But here's the real kicker - you're a male terrorist and you receive your reward in heaven. OK, what now? 72 virgins? That might last me (conservatively) 36 days. What happens then? Am I married to 72 women? And what happens when they start vying for power? Who rules the cloud now?

You notice the police actually used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire after his pals stomping this legs and hitting the fire with a trashcan lid failed. If you look closely there is also another flaming person running in the opposite direction directly to the police who handle that fire correctly too.

There's a reason I'm not a cop: I would've turned and walked away.
