After receiving my second refund and latest package from eBay, after ordering some single core wire, Its Stranded...for the third time new seller. I dont know if wire terminology has changed. but i email the guy, he ses yes " Single Core Stranded wire for pcb prototyping" . I am wondering if anyone else has had similar issues & know a good supplier for making my own jumper wires.

Hahaha. Single core stranded wire? So each strand is single core? I've not had this exact issue with eBay sellers, but I have had issues with other "cheap" eBay products. It seems they never understand your questions or know anything about the product.

 

I reckon its abit of a scam, the only confusion i could see is the single core being confused with 1 wire . But i even asked the guy before buying it, does it have a single soild core.

But i think they know it isnt and playing dumb and charging more for cheap stranded wire.

 

I always used the terms Single Core or Stranded Core. These Ebay sellers haven't a clue what their product actually is. Maybe you should email them a picture.

Single core could be interpreted as a "single wire" vs a multi-core (multi-wire) cable.
Only sure way to classify a single solid wire is to specify "solid" or "solid core" in the wire specification.
I guess a lot of this confusion from off-shore sellers is in the translation of "single core". I think literally it translates to "single wire", not "solid core". One could have multi-core cable with all "solid" wires in it, like common house wiring.

 

Try single core solid wire. The "core" is made up of conduductors (wire) which may be solid or stranded. Core is typically used for describing cable which is made up of individually insulated conductors (wire) with an overall insulated sheath covering the bundle of wires. IE a 4 core "wire" will have 4 individually insulated wires with an overall insulated sheath. Confusing ain't it.

 

A 'core' is what exists in solder to hold the flux. Wire is either 'solid', 'stranded', and perhaps 'Litz'.

Down here we make a distinction between cable and wire. When you say wire, it's understood as a single, solid copper conductor. We reserve the term "cable" for wires made of multiple smaller copper filaments.

 

Try the term Hook Up wire.
