Check out the ARRL Handbooks. There's should be some working circuits, and probably are the most reliable sources, better than google images.

There a zillion schematics on the internet, many of them directly off manufacturers data sheets and app notes. Given that you can buy a digitally tuned receiver for $10, why do you want this? Also, what country are you in?

Do you want a simple DIY radio in order to learn how AM and FM works? It would be best to choose one alone, i.e. AM or FM but not both.

Or do you want an off-the-shelf chip solution for AM or FM or both AM/FM?

AM/FM can complicate things. It might be best to choose one, AM or FM but not both in the same radio.

 

Also, you might want to start with a kit, because many radio circuits require carefully made inductors.

There are thousands of circuits. It all depends on exactly what you're trying to do.

A SDR dongle can receive a relative large frequency spectrum for AM and FM signals.

20 bucks. SDR is sorta like visual radio. Or maybe "star trek" radio.
