Hi everybody,

we are upgrading our ECAD/MCAD softwares in our department. My boss asked me to compare the Solidworks PCB (which is power by Altium) and the Altium designer itself.
I have some experience working with older versions of Altium and for our type of job, I think it's the best choice.
The problem is, the software license is too expensive and we don't want to spend that much of money.
On the other hand the MCAD guys in our department need to buy the Solidworks for their work.
So we have the option of buying both softwares (Solidworks + Solid PCB) at a cheaper price.
My question is what is the difference of Altium designer and Solidworks PCB ?
We do not design fancy/cutting edge boards our designs mostly includes:
- Automotive applications (Max 6 layer)
- RF design (Frequency max 6 GHz)
- DDR2 memory
- Low count FPGA packages and micro-controller designs
- and a "LOT" of documentation.
So far we had an old version of Mentor but we can't afford the new software.
thanks for your help
Goodi
