When I was a pup, I worked with a mechanical engineer who had worked at Convair on the early Atlas during Project Mercury. He mentioned that he'd met a few them when they toured the facility so I asked him what he thought of them. I expected to hear something along the lines of 'Great Americans', 'Brave Pioneers' or something like that. Instead he snorted and said with not a little awe and admiration 'Bunch of F*%^*$ daredevils!'
