It does not surprise me in the least when considering the origin of life form, , I am not a scientist but when you consider Amoeboid cells occur not only in protozoa, but also fungi, algae and animals it is a natural progression, 50% is a long way from <5%.
Just as many of us find that our DNA may also contains a trace of the Neanderthals, Neanderthal DNA accounts for an estimated 1–4% of the Eurasian genome.

In 1965 on the highway, 1/2 way between El Paso and White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), where my mother worked we saw a flying saucer. We were late getting out the door, else we would have been just one among a long line of cars snaking across thedesert, but being late, we were alone out there, under a clear blue Texas/NM sky. We were enroute to a Sat range open-house for freinds and family of the facility, --an annual barbeque/party. We stopped on the side of the road for tinkle-business. Out there, on either side of the hwy...there is nothing, just open desert as far as the eye can see. The area was all live military munitions/guided missile shootdown training area, only about 40 miles from the Trinity Test site. Area is not a good place to hike. Without going into all of the other details, my mother (a licensed pilot & motorcycle racer) and I watched a silvery object transit from the direction of EP, moving parallel to the hwy, some good distance. When it transited around 35º of sky the object made what appeared to be a left-angle 90º direction change, moving toward us at diagnonally. Initially seen at a good distance, object appeared about a 5mm long, exhibiting a very bright silvery appearance. My mother thought it might be a helicopter it's lift rotor glinting in the suns rays. As it traveled closer, the object appeared to morph from a pencil shape to a cigar like geometry, unil finally it stopped, nearly directly over us, at which point it appeared completely round. After about 15 seconds had elapsed, it dropped straight down, fast, but not so fast that the eye could not track its shape. It stopped abruptly about 50ft altitude over us. My estimate referenced a nearby long-lines telephone pole, which in those were around 35ft tall. The object was about 15 or 20 ft higher. It was a disc, looked to be maybe 35ft to 50ft diameter. Like two pie pans, one inverted, placed on each other, lining up the crust lip, only the bottom had several concentrically smaller steps. It was absolutely motionless. I could feel no heat from it either. It had just travel 1/2 way across the sky and yet it radiated no obvious black-body radiation? The bottom of the craft resembled the reflectiveness of a polished mirror surface. My mother when in debates would exclaim, 'I'm a trained pilot!' and here, she passed out! I still remember seeing my mother slumping to the ground in the reflection off the bottom of the disc. I would have taken off running but my legs turned to jelly and I just could not move. It was a combination of abject terror coupled with an absolute fascination. It was a beautiful machine. But I saw no seams, no rivets. It looked it was moulded peice of polished stainless steel. If we had not watched it travel to our location, we would not have known that it was there it was that silent. It was absolutely motionless. It blocked sun casting a shadow on the desert. And more than that there was palpable sense that we were being watched. Then it took off. Straight up, again sans obvious sound. There is more to the story, but heck, this is an electronics forum, and is way off topic.

Yes, there is one in the micro-park of a local town here in Western PA. (Mars, Pennsylvania).
This year, they celebrated the Martian New Year, and will continue to celebrate every 619 days.

NASA employees came down from Cleveland (Glenn) to make presentations, there was a street fair, model rocket launches and fireworks. The event felt like the 1960s all over again! Heck, the town looks like the 1960s all over again.

Unfortunately, no UFOs were spotted during the event.
