Skeptical as I also am, cases in which a professional astrophysicist is willing to risk his career by being so open about his extreme viewpoints have always drawn my attention.
In general, professional astrophysicists (like all people) are sometimes crackpots and/or opportunists selling a book. There is little risk when your profession doesn't takes it seriously.

I agree it's mainly not Man-Made crafts of some sort, it's likely natural phenomena that aren't well understood, optical/EM illusions and misidentifications.

SETI pioneer Frank Drake, of 'Drake Equation' fame, dies at 92

Drake is best known for the equation that bears his name, a formula that estimates how many detectable alien societies may exist in our Milky Way galaxy. Drake devised his famous equation in 1961, a year after he initiated Project Ozma, which used a radio telescope to hunt for possible signals from extraterrestrial civilizations.

Sure, there are a lot more videos of things "Unidentified but Known"

https://www.vice.com/en/article/4ax...ed-releasing-them-will-harm-national-security
The U.S. Navy says that releasing any additional UFO videos would “harm national security” and told a government transparency website that all of the government’s UFO videos are classified information.
In a Freedom of Information Act request response, the Navy told government transparency site The Black Vault that any public dissemination of new UFO videos “will harm national security as it may provide adversaries valuable information regarding Department of Defense/Navy operations, vulnerabilities, and/or capabilities. No portions of the videos can be segregated for release.”

Some of the videos looked like simple "Lens Flare". The rules that govern government acquisition processes favor small businesses snd the skills and quality that some small businesses promise vs what they can deliver is astounding. Sometimes the product delivered is accepted because of project timelines and cost overruns. Crappy lenses from glass casting, lens grinding, lens polishing, AR coatings, mounting, etc and lack of communications between them can easily cause an unplanned lens flare and Generals in charge of programs to call it a UFO instead of admit they have crappy optics.

WASHINGTON — Government officials believe that surveillance operations by foreign powers and weather balloons or other airborne clutter explain most recent incidents of unidentified aerial phenomenon — government-speak for UFOs — as well as many episodes in past years.
...
It was not clear how much of the new intelligence report would be made public. But of the cases that have been resolved, most have proved to be either errant junk in the sky, like balloons, or surveillance activity, officials said. Incidents recorded in the past year, for which more data has been collected, have turned out to have ordinary, earthbound explanations.
...
At the hearing, Bray also explained why the government was not releasing more information about the incidents.

“We do not want potential adversaries to know exactly what we’re able to see or understand, or how we come to the conclusion,” Bray said. “Therefore, disclosures must be carefully considered on a case-by-case basis.”

In popular culture, extraterrestrials are often cast as second-class citizens or less than human. If it weren't for the intervention of ET's human friend, the titular alien would have been cut open on an operating room table. In the 2009 film District 9, millions of alien "prawns" are packed into South African slums – an allegory for human bigotry and cruelty in real life.
