Well, they haven't explained the main finding, the sporadic dimming. They only explained the century-long "dimming". I suppose the latter might have seemed like evidence of a structure being built over time.
The Churches will go monkey poop over it though. Someone else living in the neighborhood will really throw a wrench in many their base belief systems.I wonder, will an alien civilization be discovered in my lifetime? It would be exciting to watch how history unravels after such an event.
Some Churches will ... I don't want to discuss religion here (and by all means, please do avoid it), but for clarification purposes, the Catholic Church had already contemplated the possibility of the existence of aliens in other worlds since the 16th century. The Churches will go monkey poop over it though. Now that will be entertaining to watch!![]()
My daughter is in a private Catholic school. If I've learned anything from this experience, it's that the CC loves money. A few more civilizations bequeathing tithes to the Vatican would likely be a welcome development for them. Some Churches will ... It depends of what branch of the Church you're talking about (and please remember that they're human)... and on the other hand, it's also the largest charitable organization in the world, and one of the most efficient and with less overhead ...If I've learned anything from this experience, it's that the CC loves money.
I agree it will be entertaining. But I suspect they all will (and already do) view it as an existential threat and will rush to compartmentalize the threat. I mean they'll take the approach that they never denied the possibility, the news changes nothing, and so on, so that the faithful can simply continue on bestowing power and tribute to the church leaders. Trying to deny obvious reality is not a long run strategy, it will be better to accept but trivialize it.The Churches will go monkey poop over it though. Someone else living in the neighborhood will really throw a wrench in many their base belief systems.

It's a lot less interesting when you see who made the quote:This looks very interesting:

"The signal from HD 164595 is intriguing, because it comes from the vicinity of a sun-like star, and if it's artificial, its strength is great enough that it was clearly made by a civilization with capabilities beyond those of humankind,"

Bummer... hate to say it, but you're right... I didn't pay attention to thatIt's a lot less interesting when you see who made the quote:
Douglas Vakoch, PhD, received his PhD in Clinical Psychology with a Quantitative Concentration from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. His earlier training was in comparative religion with an emphasis on Buddhism (BA, Carleton College) and in the history and philosophy of science (MA, University of Notre Dame). Dr. Vakoch is a licensed psychologist in the state of California, and his psychological research and clinical interests include topics in psychotherapy, ecopsychology, and methodologies of psychological research.Just sayin'
None exist elsewhere.Problem is, truly "intelligent life" would walk among us and suggest none exist elsewhere in the Universe.
I wonder if they'd understand the term "freak out" ...If you went to the AAC forum on that planet, dou you think that their SETI program reacted the same as ours?
About as much as we graph their language.I wonder if they'd understand the term "freak out" ...![]()
