I need to convert 220 single phase to 440 3 phase to run a 25 hp motor. Can I buy a VFD or phase converter that will do this?

Out of my league, but I don't think a VFD can generate the other phases, or the higher voltages. Can you get closer to the source, where you might already have 440 3 phase available?

 

The nearest 3 phase is over 2 miles away and cost is prohibitive to have power company run 3 phase.

Look up rotary converters.

It is a single phase motor that turns a 3 phase generator.

I know Grainger here in the US carries them.
