Hi, can anyone give me some advice on how best to use a small motor with adjustable speeds that could rotate something hanging from a ceiling (just a few kg) please?
I work in an artist's studio and we usually work with small items suspended on threads but would like to use small motors to move these in future - we are all novices so need something very basic.

Plenty of kits available to drive DC motors using an Arduino and loads of projects online to get you started. You could do it by remote control or just run wire back to wherever you want to control it from.

 

With a small DC motor with gear box as suggested, there are many small PWM controllers on Ebay for a couple of $$'s.

The off-the-shelf solution is a mirror ball rotator, available in AC and DC models.
