It seems like there are some problems that just don't obey the laws of nature.
Recent experience reminds me of one.

Why does the smoke alarm battery always go dead in the middle of the night?

hi Ron,
You must have the same model as me, I get that problem.;)
I have found when the ambient temperature is lower, a 'dying' battery hiccups , usually at night.

Dunno, but my guess is the same underlying mechanism is at work as when a dropped slice of toast always lands on the floor butter-side down.

Inanimate objects-- why do they hate us so???

Why does your car run out of gas only when you're driving?
It never happens when you're parked.
Apparently you don’t live in my neighborhood.

Have’nt actually had gas siphoned yet, but one car stolen, several breakins, tires slashed on two cars. It is only a matter of time.

I read an article where someone actually did some tests about that (must have been a slow day).
Turns out, that if the toast falls off the edge of an average counter height, it is given a rotation speed that, more often than not, has the butter-side down when it hits the floor. ;)

Why when you snap raw spaghetti you end up with more than two pieces, usually three pieces?

What are the rules for snapping spaghetti? I must be doing it wrong, because I always get two pieces. You simply hold each end of the spaghetti between your thumb and forefinger. Slide your fingers together until the thumbs touch and bend.

Two pieces. Every time.

You're supposed to hold a single piece at both ends ... see if you can split it in half that way.

If one holds a spaghetto -- a single stick of spaghetti -- at both ends and bends it until it breaks, the result is usually three or more fragments.

That’s why I asked what the rules were. Nothing previous in this thread said “hold a single piece at both ends” until your post.
Yeah man.. but if you're going to split a spagheetto in half, you gotta do it with style!... splitting it with your fingers holding it right at the middle is just so... inelegant :p:D
