Yesterday evening I set the oven to 400 to heat some Naan bread and then went and watched TV while it preheated.

I expected a beep after about 15 mins or so, but after some time I realized that I hadn't heard it, so I assumed I simply missed it and continued to watch for a few mins.

Then I walked over to the kitchen and senses a warm, hot oil smell, like one might get when opening a hot oven.

The display was showing an error code E115 "Excessive internal temperature" which is something I've never seen before.

The door could not be opened, it had somehow locked and none of the front panel buttons did anything except generate a beep when pressed.

It was continuing to heat.

So I went outside and found the breaker for that unit and shut it off and it went off and cooled.

This morning I turned it on again and set it to heat to 300F, that seemed to work OK, it reached 300, beeped and seemed to be steady, I kept an eye on it for 15 or 20 mins and it was acting normal, but it's now shut off again as I research this.

So, question: Has anyone had an experience like this with an electric oven, or even this same model?

A web search suggested that some relay might have seized shut, but that's clearly not the case after this test, another suspect was the temperature sensor, perhaps that has started acting up at 400+ temps, the unit is four years old.

 

Sounds like it could have been a one-time glitch. I would try heating it to 400 again and see what happens.

My oven occasionally just shuts down and call buttons just beep. Cycling the breaker fixes it.

yes, that's a good idea, I will repeat it this evening, set it again to 400 and see if it recurs.

Than web implied that there's a meltable strip, that will melt at some very high temp and cut the power apparently, naturally very useful if left unattended and this arose!

That has come up during some searches, but I don't know how, I've actually never done a self clean and just did what I normally do: BAKE, <enter temp>, START and walked away, it's possible I did though I should see what steps are to start a self clean...
