Monster Cable is notorious for filing sketchy patent infringement cases even going after a 'Monster' named mini-golf course:

They went after Blue Jeans Cable for infringement not knowing that their CEO is a former litigator that 'misses it sometimes' and whose policy towards such actions could be chairtably described as 'scorched earth'. The response letter to the infringement claim is priceless.

Patent trolls are parasites and should be dealt with appropriately.

On the other hand, for the first few years after retirement I made pretty good money as a part-time expert consulting with various legal firms fighting a troll group. In other words, that cloud may have a silver lining, but how you look at it depends on who gets the silver. Patent attorneys complain about them but paraphrasing Liberace, they "...cried all the way to the bank."
