I normally work with corporate VPNs, which need you to be on their network. I was wondering, is there any free solution, If I want 2 to 5 PCs to be on the same network, so we can work on the same projects and use the resources available. Also how to set it up, for example something like OpenVPN?

 

You can use something like OpenVPN but your “free” requirement is misleading. There is a lot of work in installing, configuring, and maintaining a VPN server, and I doubt your time is “free”. On top of that you will need to host it somewhere, also not ”free”.

If you are not an expert in infosec, security can also be a problem. So, there are costs involved and they need to be compared to the cost of other options—such as dedicated hardware or commercial software that has a lot of the work automated for you.. But, you might not want a VPN at all.

You said you want to share resources, which resources? What sort of activities do you see the VPN making possible? Can you give a couple of scenarios so we can get an idea of the actual functionality you need?

A shared hard drive would be what we are using in order to make and use libraries. Training materials like PDF files are also necessary.

 

So, let me make sure I understand this. Your need is for a collaborative storage space? Do you need real-time collaborate or version control?
