Can I use a 555 IC to drive a BLDC or a Switched/Variable Reluctance motor? If so, up to what hp?

 

Not near as easy as using a IC that was made to do it. https://www.onsemi.com/PowerSolutions/product.do?id=MC33035 There are also application notes that go along with it if you look for them. The 555 would be the wrong way to go on this.
