I am having quite a bit of trouble sourcing a schematic for a 36v power supply or converter from anything else.
I found a 50w 36v led with a light output of about 5000 lumens and its only 15$ but i cant find a power supply for it.
I have a spare 12v computer power supply for all of my other leds, 600w.
Looking to convert it to 36v somehow but cant find a high current solution.
I found the cap and diode multiplier found on this site but only offers a few ma of current.
If i were to make my own id need a transformer and they START at 65$ for the transformer alone.
I was wondering if there was some other way of powering the led at 1500 ma at 36v for less than 50$ without using batteries.

Are you intending to drive a 50W LED without a current regulator? You'll find more supplies like the two below from other vendors.

None of the AC/DC supplies on this site have a high enough output voltage but they're the type of product you probably should be looking for, unless you can rewire whatever array you have down below a 24V requirement.

50W at 36vDC is not going to be cheap, mainly because it's unusual. You can get lots of cheap high current 12v supplies including adapting PC PSUs etc but you can't easily adapt a 12v PSU to make it 36v.

Do you have access to the LED PCB and how many LEDs are on the PCB? Maybe you could chop some tracks and rewire it to be a 50W 12v array instead?

i was looking into the power supply option from 12 to 36 because its already regulated somewhat. i will be greatly underpowering the led to make it last so even if it did go a little above then it would have room to increase brightness.

14$ should be doable, that would work right there from 110v. I would just rather make one and know im not pushing anything to any limits. I like to overbuild things for longer life and so i wont have to wait 6-10 weeks for a driver that may or may not be working when i get it.

 

That looks like a good deal, $14 for a complete 50W SMPS to drive your 36v LED?

You couldn't build one for $14 in parts and that would still take *heaps* of work.

Also this forum bans discussion of mains powered SMPS devices so you can't build it here, you would have to build a transformer based version (linear PSU) which is probably $50 to $60 in parts, plus lots of work.

 

Thanks guys but decided to go with 10w instead of 50w. much less efficient but i can power it with my cnc psu, and my dimmers that i made.
