We have a requirement to charge a 12v 7A secondary battery that powers on our board systems located on a Semi Trailer from a Truck's main power supply. The issue been is our Trucks power supply systems vary and either runs 24V or 12V systems.

I don’t know anything about the electrical system in trucks but I’m surprised it can operate on either voltage. Is there not already a reliable 12V source on board somewhere?

For charging a 12V battery from either a 12V or 24V system, you could use a 15V output buck-boost switcher converter to power a 12V battery charger circuit.
Is this a make or buy charger?
Does it need to charge when the engine is not running?

Thanks for the replies,

We have several trucks different makes and models that run on a 12V Battery or 24V Battery power source. Standard Alt and Battery charging system.

We have trailers that have a 12V 7a battery supply to power onboard devices when it is not attached to the truck power source , need to build/find a DC to DC charger to charge the trailer 12V 7A battery when connected to the truck. The issue we are facing is finding a battery charger that the accept Input 12-24V (truck power source) and output to 12V ( Trailer battery).

Hope this helps
