My heat pump circuit board has gone out. It no longer cycles the compressor just keeps it on till the temp is reached. Which is fine till the temps get below 40 it ices over. Is there a 220v adjustable timer out there I could buy or build? I'm looking for something similar to the 555 timer where you can adjust the on off times. So 30 mins on 5 mins off or 60 mins on 5 off and so on. Something I could adjust dependant on the weather.

There are tons of timer modules on ebay, many with onboard relays for AC power control. However, I strongly recommend controlling the heatpump through its thermostat control wires rather than direct switching of its AC power connection.

Do you want the timer to operate only when the temp is <40°F or all the time?
Operating all the time is, of course, simpler.

I planned on only switching off the compressor.
I want it to operate all the time any temp. My only issue is the cuircit board is bad and will cost more than its worth to fix. In the spring I plan on replacing it but it's just not possible right now.

There are some Omron timer relays which will do this. Look at H3CR-A8.

 

Perhaps one of these.
