so im wanting some way to control 5 pc fans from the outside of my case and this is what ive come up with, all i know about electrical anything is the barebones basics so i may be missing something or my schematic will blow something up
12v goes in ans splits of to 5 fans/outputs with a variable resistor to control the speed of all

feel free to marvle at my 10/10 paint skills

If they are non PWM fans and the pot has the correct rating it would work, tho it will not be very efficient at low speed, "unused" voltage at the pot will be turned into heat.

A better explanation of your project, ie: reasons why you are doing this, what you hope to accomplish and the reason why you want to do it this way, will elicit better replies and quite possibly better ways to achieve your overall goal.

ran out of headers on my board and wanting to use all the fans i got, since down here in the southern hemisphere its summer time and its getting a bit warm on it and more fans = less heat inside case/more airflow

It was a nice cool 37'C odd degrees today. I've got a server running 24/7 and desktop that does the same distance.

Next couple of days should be ok....tho you never know in Oz, one side of the country could side could end up on fire & the other side could end up under water.

I take it you have vacuumed the CPU heatsink and the case ?

The easiest route, if you don't have a lot of electronic skills, is going to be to buy a commercial unit. Maybe something that can control PWM fans. An eight fan PWM controller will set you back about AUD $25 - $30 and that's from a local retailer. Of course cheaper from China but a 4 - 6 week wait is a problem.

Any controller that varies voltage, ie: for 2 wire fans, is going to runner hotter at lower speeds. One thing you need to look into is do you have enough "spare" power for 5 extra fans ?

i got more than enough power for the fans, since the controller that i have 3/4 slots have died, fans still work fine though

ran 4 from a cheap controller i got last year and i got 1 running strait from the psu through a molex adaptor thingy
