Q: How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood?

A: A wood chuck would chuck as much wood as a wood chuck would chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood.

We need to trade information,a doctor visit don't mean that he is looking for cancer.
There many blood test that you never get, based on your doctors opinion. There are
web sites that show you what cancer looks like. You only see most of it after some
one is dead. I hear young people talking about going to the doctor not feeling good.
They accept do nothing treatment for years, the magic words are standard of care
that doctors agree on to protect them.Intelligent people should share information
on systoms.Gas related problems to eating seems to be a big one, that they settle
for tums and other indigestion problems. Every 3 months for appointments just to say
hi is not good enough. If you are a certain age the doctors start you on the medicine
that every one your age gets.It don't make sense.

This makes senses,A well known doctor was telling his rich patients
that it would be worth his money to fly to the Mayo Clinic for more
test since his local guy could not find his problem. So that means
there is a higher level of medical service for people with means.

This is True. Mayo Clinic is not cheap, so they will only accept patients with new and bizarre conditions to study, or those who good insurance and can cover all copay costs up-front.

If you want essentially the best medical treatment in the world, it's not going to cost the same as your local hospital (which will treat anybody, regardless of their ability to pay).

This is possibilty that are a few doctors that come to this country
that don't realize how knowledgeable they are, yet. They are happy
to get hospital refeered patients to treat,I have heard of some good
results .It helps if you choose some of your care,a good clue is
hmo doctors that ask you about what your insurance will cover.

I know a few, and the one's who's clinics are on the Medicare list generally don't like their job at all, and spend little time with patients. The others who are specialists, spend up to an hour with each patient.

Just like anything else in life, you get what you pay for, I guess, with sadly few exceptions. Working with helping parents, I've noticed this. The medicare paid doctors tend to not speak English clearly, though I've talked to some from overseas that speak English better than most Americans. They do get in the habit of spending as little time as possible. They also get in the habit of going as fast as possible, having nurse do blood pressure and most of an exam, then doctor is in room for 5 minutes and gone. When one goes to a specialist in the big city, they get lots of time with the doctor, even though they aren't "medicare only", it's the habit.

Studies have shown that the more attention a doctor pays to patients, the faster they recover, and the better their overall health is. Even an extra 5 minutes (doulbing the time) makes patients feel like the doctor cares personally about them, and has a tremendous placebo effect. This has even shown up in cases where people have cancer.

This does give some credit to the "Homeopathic Doctors" who tend to see positive results, even though they do not give any "real" medicine, they act more like a counselor with knowledge of health. When they see something very bad, they send them to the ER. Massage therapy helps a lot of people with backaches, not so much from the massage, but from the chit-chat during it, the overall "everything is stopped for a while" hour of the relaxing process.

God's country, that great place to live. Not many doctors,so it must be the fresh
air or the well regulated life that helps to live to a hundred, generation after
generation.Sunday morning at church, meals on time and bed time prayers .
The only stress is outsiders and kids that want to leave, not knowing what they
will find. There are moments of real reflection,Loosewire wishes you to be well
and happy.

Overall lifespan and quality of life have increased, but now we get back to the point I made earlier: Food is so abundant that a great portion of all members of our society are now seeing shorter lifespans due to obesity and other lifestyle choices.

If given the choice, would a government prefer to have 30% of their population in non-productive (i.e. nearly non-taxpaying) retirement, or worse, in healthcare that the government pays for?

It's a dangerous line now that we are at the point of literally controlling lifespan based on making some treatments affordable or not. That is a decision the family should make and pay for. If it were up to the government, I wouldn't want them to decide what color socks to wear. The Post Office is a shining example of government efficiency.

If you had a piggy bank or lets say that your house is a piggy bank for all
the people in your state that wants a penny from you, they warn you that
if you want to print that list that it take hours to print. There are lobbist
that spend there life begging the state for funds for just about everything.
WE didn't even mention the federal government yet,but a lot of causes
there some funds from the feds. One example the cruise ships get enough
fresh water to supply a small city at each port visit. They have no meters
on the ships to count the amount of water they would have to pay for,the
lobbiest makes 6 figures, her husband is a judge. Her staff has 8 people making
6 figures. This is paid by travel taxes. You may not have a port, but you have
gas taxes for your roads, who knows how many 6 figure salaries are paid, just for one county.

Did you know that over 50% of American jobs are working directly for the government in some way? From Federal to state to county to city level, Government is the largest employer in the US - that covers everything from the FBI to forest fire jumpers to DMV clerks, as well as road construction and remodeling older courthouses.

Who pays for all those workers salaries, since "The government workers" is obviously not the right answer. We are in hard times, adding new government jobs isn't the solution to it.

I would like to counter the abundant food argument - I am having problems bying mutant vegetables (such as mexican seedless cucumbers and tomatoes that never go bad). As such, still trying to stick to seasonal diet but it has become unaffordable because it is now fashionable, organic blah blah. Basically stuck eating apples to cover my fruit/vegetables needs. But I guess I am a bit nuts. Does anyone remember what a real tomato supposed to taste like? I guess if you have your own garden you do. Not even going to start on corn, canola, tofu and state of the meat industry (btw I am not a vegetarian)... The abundant food isn't really food. It's good though for the industries to work together, one hand feeds another.

BTW we are heading towards the future where many will be in the non-paying taxbracket and those supporting them in debt from student loans. It used to be that as people got older they lived their final years with their family, N.American culture has changed that and it seems to have caught on. Have to buckle up for an interesting ride I guess.

question: how does a radio signal from canada reach chile during a storm?

Agreed on quality of food, and additives. However, there needs to be a few additives for any food to be left over, as gardeners know, pesticides are friends. So is fertilizer. It's the stuff that is added after removal from ground that shouldn't be needed.

I remember in college all the literal "pushing" of "get more student loans free!", they'd give you a bag of chips and a six pack of pop just for filling out another app. Dumb kids didn't know any better went for all the loans they could, rather than read $ amount, try the fine print and think for a minute the definition of "loan". 15 years later, they made loans a "family issue" where bankruptcy or even death doesn't remove them, the family needs to pay for them.

In that same time period, tuition, books and fees have increased. We have way too many people going to college who aren't really sure what they want to be if they grow up. They shouldn't even be in college, let alone on loans. Somehow, it's been driven into everybody's head that college is grades 13-17 and absolutely required if you are to get anywhere in life, even if it is a "useless" major. RUBBISH. That concept is only there to keep the loan apps filled out to keep tuition high so more extra buildings can be added to colleges.

We do live in interesting times. I'm sure somebody gave us that curse right around the beginning of the Vietnam war. It's been kinda downhill since.

is it possible to freeze water in a hot summer climate by means of evaporation or other means, without using a refigerant chemical?
I have seen experiments with bowls of sheep turds floating in water that generate ice, but on on any useful level, and I'm not entirely convinced they work anyways.
