The monitor is $5000 dollars. The stand is an extra $1000. It's only 6k and you can pick up a Samsung 65 in. 8k for around $5000 and it comes with a stand. The wall mount is extra but it won't set you back $1000.

Whenever Apple is trying to sell something, I always think of the Star Wars scene where the emperor is referring to the lightsaber and says in his hypno voice “You Want This”.

 

Nothing wrong with a company trying to maximize its profits.

 

The pros that might buy such a thing usually have stands and they move monitors around, leaving the stands in place. So it makes sense to separate them and not force buyers to buy stands if they don't need them. I don't know anything about the professional monitor stand market but I suppose Apple does. It sure seems expensive to the casual user! But it won't affect me one way or another.
