Looking at the chat about the Yi Yun brushed motor controllers. I was just wondering, have a problem not running. What is the likely culprit? What is the throttle, is a pot? Would appreciate any tests I can do to nail down the fault.

 

You will probably not be able to get much information from the supplier, so it would be difficult to actually trouble shoot the electronics. However, there are some other things that could stop it from working. Check that the battery voltage is what it is supposed to be with the power turned both on and off. Carefully check the wiring between the battery, controller, controls and the motor for possible wear or damage. measure continuity where possible. See if you can find a fuse in the circuit. If it is possible to disconnect the motor from the controller without causing any damage, check the resistance of the motor with the shaft at different angles (don't rotate the motor with the ohm meter connected = you may overload the meter and damage it).

Sorry for not being more specific. Motor runs when connected to the battery, my main question is, is the speed control on the handle bars a potentiometer? All the other bits like key switch etc. are easy to check. Also, it is a replacement Yi Yun 36V 1000W controller. Just trying to figure out what I could have missed. Hopefully it's a simple fix. Thanks in advance.

 

I am not familiar with Yi Yun products but I think it would be safe to assume that the throttle control is a potentiometer.

 

Thanks, was my suspicion too. Any other things that plug in that would inhibit the controller to run?
