why not a Diode before a relay ?

@Pastilhas I think it's worth noting that if you use a diode on an _A/C_ circuit, you're going to clip the wave-form in half, as such, the solenoids are only getting DC pulses, which is why they chatter.
A diode in the way you are using it, is not the correct answer.
