I'm a recently retired (Army and DOD Civilian) who lives in FLA.
I'm rekindling my interest in electronics, mostly hobby and some repairs. I used to build Heathkits and test equipment. I still have some from an NRI course I took back in the 80s.

For kicks I just purchased a Velleman LAB2U all in one with an Oscilloscope/Generator/DC Pwr Sply. I have analog and digital multimeters. In fact, for hobby work I have an Elenco analog meter to build in a kit form. I have good results with other stuff from them in years past.

I just got an old RCA Volt Ohmyst meter going again, weighs over six pounds and takes 20 minutes to warm up (tubes). So besides some Blinky Light kits I've been building, I don't know where I'll go next with my interest. I have noticed a marked decrease in companies offering quality kits to build. Some stuff still out there, but not like it was.

At any rate, I'm sure I'll enjoy this forum with folks a lot more knowledgeable in electronics than I participating.

Software weenie by day, analog electronic experimenter by night. Interested in quantum events, true random number generation, retrocausality, virtual particles, zero point energy, quantum vacuum. You know. The usual.

Let me look up some of that stuff you mentioned. Can you dumb it down to my level, I ain't no Carl Sagan. o_O

Welcome, I'm a new member as of today myself.

Measurement, signals, radioactivity, data acquisition and analysis, electro-optics, p-n junction noise, cosmic rays, muons, gamma radiation all in the context of semiconductors. Linux. I am currently utilizing op amps. Definitely NOT an EE. Hobby projects. Low $.

This is the last circuit I built with a couple of mods: http://www.edn.com/design/analog/4420926/White-noise-source-flat-from-1Hz-to-100kHz

I used a TL072 I had laying around. An hp block type ac/ 18 V dc power adapter. Smooth. I did the virtual ground thing with it and it is extremely clean and stable. I used an avalanche diode with a 12.5 V breakdown voltage and an extremely sharp knee. I output bias coax to a sound card and log via Audacity at 24-bit with a sample rate off 22.5k. I work exclusively < 50khz in my projects. I have been building lately on TI's OPAMPEVM-PDIP general purpose op amp project PCB's. Testing pn reverse bias transistor noise and signals as well.
