Hi Miss Kelly, Welcome to the club.
You look too young to have grandkids.:)
You silver tongued devil you.

Miss Kelly, feel free to explore the site. If you have questions about electronics in general this is a good place to come. If you just want to visit that is OK too, but you have fallen into a nest of nerds.

You've come to the right place. Feel free to ask any questions, even if you feel they are silly or too simple. Flaming and trolling is not allowed on AAC. If you haven't done so please read our Terms of Service.

Hi there, everyone. I'm a techie and wordsmith, ex-pat American presently living in Germany. I was led to this forum by a link in the forum of Linear Circuits, currently under way at Coursera.org, although I've known of All About Circuits for some time. What a great resource this is.

My hands-on experience with electronics extends as far as rebuilding and refurbishing computing hardware (macs and pcs), and I've spent many an hour in research laboratories where I did some simple stuff with LabView. I once created a shower of sparks by shorting out some video hardware on an iMac I was working on with the display half-off. Was dich nicht umbringt, macht dich stärker.

Um...tiny problem...English only.
Sometimes we use different languages to make a joke, but in general, verwenden Sie Englisch.

Yeah, whoda thunkit?

Point taken. Electronics is not a very philosophical topic.

I'm a native-English speaker, and not fluent yet in German, and I was just making a joke about my experiences with high voltages and currents.

That's the best place to use a different language. :D

Don't worry. I wasn't getting tense about it. Just trying to be informative.

You find very strange translations of foreign words on many schematics. First, there is the difference in thinking caused by having a different native tongue, then the translation to English sometimes obscures the meaning even more. You aren't alone in guessing what the original intent was. :D

I usually get along with Spanish translations because they are based in Latin roots, but Russian and Chinese tend to not translate very well.
