I am Anita and well what can I say about myself that does not sound like an advert in a single dating agency. :D I just love everything connected to maths and physics and science in general - I always loved that and while growing up and becoming an adult I never forgot about that and always stuck to what I love

Hello everyone! I'm from Australia and have been a bit of a lurker so far. I'm a second year EE student, and I hope to learn a lot more practical stuff here and broaden my knowledge in relation to anything EE related.

@ Bill Marsden:The word, "maths" might indicate that Anita lives in England.

@deki: Lurking is good. It helps you avoid "beginner" mistakes like not posting a schematic or trying to answer old posts that the O.P. (original poster) has long ago forgotten about. Then there's that thing about "where you live". It helps us figure out where you can get parts. (It's in the user control panel, abbreviated, "User CP" on the top of the page.)

I'm a totally self-taught electronicist, with a particular focus on audio technology. I run my own small business, repairing and restoring audio and video recordings for local and international customers. This pays in small kind for my love of physics and astronomy!

I was lucky enough to work for HP (last century!), starting in instrument repair, and moving to PC specialisation, where I spent my last 10 years with them, leaving as the Asia-Pacific Citrix Program manager before some significant spinal problems took me out of the workforce.

I've done quite a bit of freelance repair and design work (I redesigned the Little Big Board Z80 SBC to use the new 10MHz Z80H), and I've had 35 years of programming experience, from assembly language on the Z80, to CP/M software design, to Delphi on Win7 x64. I also design and develop small standalone products, integrating them with Windows.

I'm currently working on a number of high-energy physics projects, being particularly interested in the Lorentz effect and induction heating. These are just fillers, stuff I'm learning as I build, though always with an eye to making useful or interesting devices. It's a great opportunity to pull together my somewhat limited (but mainly theoretical) experience with inductive and capacitive electronics, Newtonian physics, and fun.

My hobby is robotics, I have a dedicated website (http://robotgestation.com), where I'm describing the process of designing and building a standalone, mobile, semi-intelligent rover (Rocky :) ). That site is helping me understand the physics behind each aspect of getting electronics working in the Real World.

Hmm... another electronics guy who has love for physics and astronomy... you should check out this post: The Edge of Space

haha... that's a joke, you'd get it if you read the whole thing (which I don't recommend).

welcome!

hi, joined up here because it looks as though there is a great community of people and a wealth of knowledge. I am not a beginner but not a pro so i still have a lot to learn --peace--

Hello,

My name is Seán ...I am an electronics student doing an MSc in electronics in Belfast in Ireland.

I am afriad there are some gaps in my understanding, and I have been looking around, and here seems like a great place to help plug those gaps, and maybe in time, help plug the gaps in others understanding.

Other than that, I am a huge jazz and punk fan.

I am the widow of Beenthere. By trade I am a mathematics teacher who can spend hours on those really hairy math problems that most students detest. What I know of electronics comes from having breathed the same air as Beenthere and looking over his shoulder for several decades. My favorite subject is trigonometry, which in my opinion is the one true language that joins all things practical and mathematical together. I will be expanding my electronics knowledge by necessity as I attempt to continue Beenthere's electronic insect monitor manufacturing business and expand it into the next generation of usage. Wish me luck.

So sorry for your loss. Beenthere was really loved around here. He is going to be missed but it is wonderful to see his legacy is being carried on. What a fantastic way to keep him here with us and at the same time adding your own spin to things.

And I think it is great that you will be continuing the business too.

Welcome to the forum and hope you are going to be a very active member.

that is my name--two first names. I am a retired power electronics engineer and love to share some of my practical knowledge stuff to anyone who will listen. I joined three months ago and am just now realizing what a close-knit bunch of members that constitute this forum, regardless of their skill level or physical location. While I have been active on facebook, few there listen to my strong opinions--here everyone listens in spite of their own strong and often opposing opinions.

Also, I welcome 1chance--only wish that I had known Bill Beenthere--please accept my sympathy.

Welcome to the family, 1chance.

I loved geometry and trigonometry and excelled in both when I was in high school.

Didn't know about the insect monitor business. I spent many years in the apple scab monitor business but not any more. I would not be surprised if there is a lot of similarity.

I would be delighted to help out with anything electronic.
