I have a stepper motor with five wires, I have recognized four winding wires. But the fifth wire does not show any reading on multi-meter with any wire. The fifth wire is only attached to motor body. I would like to ask:

What is the purpose of 5th wire?
How to use 5th wire?
Is it bipolar stepper motor?

See page 12, there is a type of unipolar motor winding with 5 leads, but a buzz through of the wires should tell you if this is the type of motor you have.

Yebut -- The OP states that the 'fifth lead' shows no continuity to the others -- my guess is he's got hold of a four lead 'bipolar' equipped with a ground/shield lead --- My $.02 and worth about as much
