Best guess, based on labeling as a surge protector and the "GDTn" reference designators, they are gas discharge tubes.

They short high voltage surges to ground. There is a pair of electrodes with a space between them. At normal voltages they don’t conduct but at high voltages they “arc over” and conduct the surge to ground.

Of coarse i did that but always prefer to have as many explinations as possible. Everyone has there own way of understanding things.

Thx. I read on google but your description is much better. It ionizes and conducts through the air. Normally people on here tell you to go to google as if you havent before. It defeats the purpose of having a forum. I only use a forum when google fails me so i apreciate people like you.
