What is the difference between corrective action and preventive action? Is there a methodical process-based approach to conducting corrective actions? What should be included in a corrective action plan?

Hello,

You need to show an application i think.

Without seeing one if i look at some basic control theory, in particular something like state variable control, then you could say that corrective action is the action induced by the state level itself while the preventive action is the action induced by the derivative of the state because the derivative gives a sort of advanced indication of what is going to happen next to the level itself.

Hello,

Assume you have some fans running to keep a system cool.
You know that the fans will have a lifetime of about 3 years.
A preventive action would be replacing the fans after 2 years.(to assure the working of the fans).
A corrective action would be replacing fans if one has been broken. (you did not use the preventive plan).

"What is the difference between corrective action and preventive action?"

Time and money.

"Is there a methodical process-based approach to conducting corrective actions?"

Yes.....fix it.

"What should be included in a corrective action plan?

Speed.

About 30-40 years ago.......all action was corrective. If it ain't broke.....don't fix it.

And then preventive strategy came along......and I was against it.......a waste of time and resources.

So the "man" put me in charge of it. In six months....I was proved wrong by increased up time and production.

And now....if you counted it all up.........I probably spent more time in PM.......than corrective.

This is because the more PM you have.......the less corrective is needed.

In some situations.......a production line being down.......can pay for months of PM.
