In its pure form you need to look at something called a DIAC, and in its triggered form look at something called a TRIAC.What is a "Bidirectional Diode"? and what is it used for?
Call me an Olde Geezer, but I seem to remember that a diode is supposed to be uni-directional.
Please respond quickly, as I do not have too much hair left to pull!

Sounds like a functional description from someone who doesn't know the name of the actual device. Basically you are right - marketing speile. Thanks, people! DIACs and TRIACs I know of; calling them "bidirectional diodes" sounds like something marketing would come up with.
No probs, had to do it myself - now I just shave my head! And thanks, Dave for the advice on the hat!
