A beautiful story about a kid from my hometown who solved a centuries-old optics problem, with barely any resources other than his own brain and a generous amount of hard work:

He then ran to his computer and started programming the idea. When he executed the solution and saw that it worked, he says he jumped all over the place. It is unclear whether he finished eating the Nutella bread.

Oh yes, sure.

BTW, wondering what I could have said in this part of the globe; maybe "¡Madre mía!" or "¡Ah la puta..., qué bien!
Down here a very typical expression for an outstanding event such as this would be "No mames!" :D ... a little vulgar, but quite colorful...

Anyone who could solve that should get a Nobel Prize.
Or at least the Fields Medal ... That's not a far-fetched idea, this discovery will impact almost every technology out there ... from cameras, to cars, to computers ... all the way to medical instruments and telescopes!

Telescope, microscope design will definitely benefit from this but I wonder how much this will affect the "small camera" applications that are currently in use everywhere? So many tricks have been developed in software to correct and sharpen images captured with small and cheap lenses.
