I'm highly skeptical of just about anything coming out of sciencedaily.com (as well as many similar sites). They are "aggregators" that take things like university press releases, that are often highly exaggerated to begin with, and then edit them and add headlines to make them punchier, often adding eye catching graphics that have nothing to do with the topic being "reported". They aren't outright lying, but they are doing nothing to vet the claims being made, either.

110% Will never be a practical tx only antenna. Maybe useful as a emergency backup, transmit beacon.


Then, think about the receive side of the RF communications system being connected to a tuned noise generator.

 

They would run them on the test stand near our comm station near the back of the base. Every once in a while, one would go boom.
