'Sounds' like it's very frequency selective and I'm leary of any article published on April 1. ;)

The vibration-mediated suppression is enabled by the vibrational modes on the fabric excited by the fiber matching with those excited by the external sound source. At the right relative phase, when the external sound wave impacts the fabric, the energy is not imparted to it, and the sound wave is reflected back. In order to suppress multifrequency sound waves originating from multiple sources, advanced signal processing and the development of complex control algorithms will be needed for the applications of both direct acoustic suppression and vibration-mediated suppression to be feasible in real-world scenarios. There is opportunity to face this challenge by using the additional degrees of freedom that the fabric emitter system offers, as multiple fibers and fabrics of various sizes and orientations could be used in a single system to suppress more complex sound.
Sounds like the usual: It works in the lab under artificial conditions but will not be practical for real-world applications.

Published "Yesterday"? Am I in a time warp? Still haven't found anywhere that it might suggest this was published 4/1.

The actual paper that article is about, always go to the source if possible for a evaluation of pop-sci articles: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/adma.202313328

It looks fine at first glance as a serious paper but I did lookup "Zachary P. Smith".

Visited Puttshack in Scottsdale this weekend, was good fun. The golf balls are somehow tracked and the system can count each player's score and number of hits all automatically, was quite impressed.

Puttshack.

Saw that elsewhere, they are raising money.

The total cost is a major consideration on how practical the system is and if the source generation power levels can utilized the added capacity.
Today VEIR’s system is passively cooled with nitrogen, which runs through a vacuum-insulated pipe that surrounds a superconducting cable. Heat exchange units are also used on some transmission towers.

I have watched quite a few videos of this school's band and it's been quite impressive!! I can say as a former "band geek" in school they take a lot of pride in what they do and put a lot of effort in to it. It's hard enough just walking and playing at the same time in some cases then you add in jumps, dancing, and everything else they do and it's something to see.
