At least in Germany, they do...
Reading between the lines, are you telling us something, a lament, about Mexico? As a young man I was highly suspicious of authority and still am in some ways. But I’ve come to appreciate how important the rule of law is. It’s far from perfect but we have no better option. It’s a critical part of civil society.

 please, don't get me started... it's a great, beautiful country, filled with wonderful, noble people... that has always been governed by despots and fools... and still, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else... and trust me, I've been around
I hope we aren't going to end up going down the same path. As a whole we've been pretty lucky until now.

The VW diesel emissions scandal contnues. The company agreed to spend $2 billion on green vehicles. First step, they are paying to air a cute advertisement featuring Fred Flintstone and George Jetson. Jetson is driving a Chevy Bolt and is obviously happier. Huh? See:

Odd sort of justice if you ask me.
VW is using sleight of hand with those stupid EV cars.

They are currently working on a true diesel alternative.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — A German court on Monday convicted four former Volkswagen managers of fraud and gave two of them prison sentences for their part in the manipulation of emissions controls, almost a decade after the scandal erupted over the company’s rigging of diesel-engine vehicles.

The former head of diesel development was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, and the head of drive train electronics to two years and seven months by the court in Braunschweig, German news agency dpa reported. Two others received suspended sentences of 15 months and 10 months.

The scandal began in September 2015 when the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued a notice of violation. saying that the company had rigged engine control software that let the cars pass emissions tests while they emitted far more pollution in actual driving.
