The thumbnail below shows an experiment that I am supposed to do for my lab. Apparently the answers were not given so I am seeking help on this forum.

A 4Volt peak to peak voltage is connected as shown in the diagram.

When the waveform across the resistor was measured, only a decreasing straight line was displayed.

The only hint given is that there is a small resistance across the osciloscope probes.

Can anyone enlighten me on the answer?

maybe you can change your osciloscope's time scale,what u see maybe just part of waveform.good luck~

 

If the negative side of your generator is connected to earth ground (through the power cord), and your scope chassis is also connected to earth ground, you won't be able to measure the voltage across the resistor with a simple single-channel probe. You need either a differential probe, or to use both channels in A-B mode.
