USB Portable Charger

I look toward creating a very very simple portable device charger using a USB wire.

My idea is to use the device ability to operate on the USB voltage to transfer electricity even while away from my computer.

My idea is this: I'll take a USB wire, connect one part to the device, and the other one to two batteries of 1.5V each.

Provided my amperage isn't a problem (I've got the amperage I need), May it work? I mean, Will I be able to charge or use the device using that voltage?

(Note: I really want something simple that could be fixed without any special tools if needed)

What kind of charger circuit will you use between the USB and the batteries?
What kind of rechargeable batteries are 1.5V each?

You explained that you are connecting the USB to "a device" and two battery cells in series. That won't work unless the device is a charger circuit that expects an input of 5.0V.

Thanks for your time.

Well, the device is just that - A charger circuit expecting an input of 5V. I just wanted to make sure the battery voltage fluctations aren't too great. I already understood the two outermost pins are the ones which control voltage.
